How to use Aethera
What each part of Aethera is for, how to get the most from it, and what the evidence honestly says.
💬 The Master
The Master is a conversational guide that draws on the world's contemplative traditions (Advaita, Zen, Sufism, Kabbalah, Taoism, Stoicism and more) alongside modern science of mind and consciousness. Ask it anything: a question about reality, a practice, a struggle you're in the middle of.
How to use it
- Ask the way you'd ask a teacher. Specific is better: "I keep waking at 3am anxious about work. What would a Stoic do?" gets a richer answer than "anxiety".
- Go deeper with follow-ups. Every conversation is saved as a thread (left side on desktop, ☰ Threads on phones). Come back to it any time.
- Turn on 🔊 Voice to have replies read aloud as they arrive; the slider beside it sets the volume. ■ Stop ends a reply mid-way.
- Receive today's Transmission for a short daily insight and practice, and share it as an image card.
- Deep session (paid) uses a more thorough mode for big questions.
Honesty labels
The Master tags claims as Established Emerging / contested Contemplative tradition or Speculative / symbolic, so you always know whether you're hearing science, tradition or metaphor.
🧘 Meditate & Breathe
Two kinds of practice, both fully audio-guided: guided meditations from 25 lineages, and breathing exercises that pace every breath for you.
Guided meditations
Practices are grouped by type: mindfulness and insight (Vipassana, Zazen, NSDR), heart and compassion (Metta, Tonglen, Heart Coherence), awareness and self-inquiry, body, energy and sleep (Yoga Nidra, the Microcosmic Orbit), sound, prayer and devotion (Om, Dhikr, Centering Prayer), and visualisation and manifestation.
- Choose a meditation, a guide's voice, a length (5–30 minutes) and background music, or silence.
- Add an intention if you like, for example "letting go of worry". Leave it blank for a general session.
- Press play and close your eyes. Soft music begins while your session is prepared; then the guide speaks, with real silences where the practice asks you to rest in it. "Read the script" shows the words if you'd rather read along.
Breathing exercises
Nine exercises, each with a different purpose: Box breathing (calm focus), 4-7-8 (sleep), Coherent breathing (heart-rate variability), the Physiological sigh (fast stress relief), Extended exhale, Alternate nostril, Triangle, Humming bee and Ocean breath.
- Choose an exercise and a length (1–10 minutes).
- Press Begin. A voice says each step ("Breathe in", "Hold", "Breathe out"), a soft chime marks each change, and the orb grows as you breathe in and softens as you breathe out. The ring shows how long each step lasts.
- Breathe gently. If you feel light-headed, stop and breathe normally.
Tips
- Sit upright but relaxed, or lie down for Yoga Nidra and sleep practices.
- A short practice every day does more than a long one now and then. Ten minutes daily for two weeks is a good first experiment.
- Mind wandering isn't failure. Noticing it and returning is the practice.
Established Regular meditation is linked with lower stress and anxiety and better attention. Slow breathing (around 5–6 breaths a minute) and long exhales reliably calm the nervous system.
Open Meditate & Breathe🎵 Frequency Lab
Pure tones, binaural beats and a breathing guide. Each preset is labelled with what the evidence actually says.
How to use it
- Tap a preset to hear it, or set your own carrier (the tone you hear) and beat (the difference between your two ears).
- Keep the volume low and comfortable. These work at a whisper, not a roar.
- Use Coherent breathing: follow the orb, about 5.5 breaths a minute (5.5 s in, 5.5 s out), for 5–10 minutes.
What's real and what's symbolic
- Established Slow breathing around 5.5 breaths a minute raises heart-rate variability and calms the nervous system.
- Emerging Binaural beats produce a measurable brain response; effects on mood and focus are small and mixed.
- Symbolic Solfeggio and 432 Hz claims (DNA repair, "the universe's frequency") aren't supported. They can still be lovely anchors for intention.
🎧 Binaural journeys
Guided sound journeys built like hemispheric-synchronisation recordings: several binaural tone pairs layered over a soft pink-noise surf, gliding through stages (settling, deepening, holding, returning).
How binaural beats work
Each ear gets a slightly different tone, say 200 Hz on the left and 206 Hz on the right. Your brain hears a gentle "beat" at the 6 Hz difference. Journeys aim that beat at different brainwave bands: delta (deep sleep), theta (deep relaxation, imagery), alpha (calm alertness), beta (focus) and gamma (40 Hz).
How to use them
- Headphones are essential. Use the "Test left/right ear" buttons first.
- Pick a journey that matches your goal: Deep Relaxation or Sleep Descent to unwind, Focus & Clarity or Advanced Learning while working, Hemisphere Synchronization or Expanded Awareness for meditation.
- Choose a length, lie or sit comfortably, and follow the stage notes shown on screen.
- Use the Tones and Surf sliders to find a level where the sound fades into the background.
Emerging / contested Some studies show small benefits for relaxation and anxiety. Claims that beats reliably "synchronise the hemispheres" or induce specific states aren't well established.
🌀 Self-hypnosis
What hypnosis is (and isn't)
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused, absorbed attention, like being lost in a book or a film, combined with deep relaxation. In that state the mind becomes more open to suggestions you want to take on. It is not sleep, not unconsciousness and not mind control: you stay aware, you stay in control, and you can open your eyes at any moment. In fact, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis; the voice is simply a guide.
How each session works
How to use the tracks
- Choose a track from the library, or type your own goal. Each has a suggested hypnotist voice; change it with "Hypnotist" and preview with ▶ Hear voice.
- Pick a length and style: Gentle, permissive (soft, suggestive, Ericksonian) suits most people; Direct, authoritative is the classic stage style; Rich imagery is very visual.
- Set up: headphones, a quiet room, phone on do-not-disturb. Sit or lie somewhere you won't be disturbed for the full length.
- Press play and close your eyes. Music begins while your session is prepared. Then just follow the voice: breathe when it says breathe, and don't try to "make" anything happen.
- Let the awakening count finish and take a moment before standing up.
Getting results
- Repeat it. Listen to the same track once a day for at least 2–3 weeks. Suggestions strengthen with repetition.
- Use your anchor in daily life. Before the meeting, the speech or the craving, take a slow breath and press thumb and finger together.
- Expect subtle shifts, not fireworks. Many people notice changes first in how they react, days later.
- Drifting off is fine. If you fall asleep, simply listen again another time. Sleep tracks are designed for it.
Established Hypnosis has good evidence for pain, IBS and anxiety. Mixed Evidence for habits like smoking is mixed; it works best alongside other support.
〰 Subliminal tracks
Subliminal tracks play positive affirmations quietly beneath a soundscape (ocean waves, rain, a forest stream, birdsong, night sounds, ambient music or singing bowls) and a binaural beat. They're designed to run in the background while you work, read, rest or sleep.
How a track is built
- Main voice: spoken softly and masked by the soundscape.
- Layered voice: a second, slightly faster voice drifting slowly between your ears.
- Silent layer (optional): the voice shifted up to about 15 kHz, at the edge of hearing.
- Binaural beat: matched to the goal: delta for sleep, theta for calm, alpha for confidence, beta for focus.
How to use them
- Choose a track and a voice, then a length (or "Loop until stopped").
- Set the Affirmations slider: "Subliminal (masked)" keeps them below conscious hearing, "Audible" lets you hear them clearly.
- Play it in the background at a comfortable volume, ideally daily, for a few weeks.
- Open "What's inside this track" to read every affirmation. Nothing is ever hidden from you.
Emerging / contested Lab studies find small, short-lived priming effects from subliminal messages; claims of deep "reprogramming" aren't supported. Affirmations you can hear, repeated with intention, have better evidence, so try the Audible setting too.
🌊 Reality Transurfing Studio
Based on Vadim Zeland's Reality Transurfing: an approach to goals that's about lowering desperation and moving with life rather than forcing it.
Key ideas
- Importance: the more desperately you grip an outcome, the more resistance you meet. Lowering importance frees you to act well.
- Pendulums: groups, systems or habits that feed on your attention and pull you off course.
- Goal and door: a true goal feels like yours, not borrowed from others; your "door" is the path that opens naturally toward it.
- The slide: a vivid, present-tense inner movie of your goal already achieved, rehearsed calmly every day.
How to use the studio
- Describe what you want, or where you're stuck, in a few honest sentences.
- Press Begin session. Aethera checks importance, names the pendulums, tests the goal and builds your slide, plus 1–3 grounded actions for this week.
- Write your intention in the journal in present tense ("I am…") and revisit it daily. The journal stays on your device.
Contemplative Transurfing is a philosophy, not a science. Its practical core (lower the pressure, visualise clearly, act consistently) echoes well-studied ideas like implementation intentions and expectancy effects.
